The ventilation dryers of the GRANIVENT™ series are the ideal supplement to GRANIFRIGOR™ grain dryers. They are used to aerate the grain immediately after harvesting. Subsequent cooling with a GRANIFRIGOR™ ensures that the grain is not damaged by insects or fungi.

A grain cooling unit removes moisture and heat from the outside air before it is forced into the stored crop. In contrast, a ventilation dryer uses untreated outside air for grain ventilation. This has to fulfil certain prerequisites to be able to ventilate grain and bring it to a stable storage condition. If it is not cool enough, it heats up the grain. If it is too moist, condensation may form in the stored crop. Grain ventilation is thus weather-dependent and can only be carried out when the outside air is cool and dry. Depending on weather conditions, grain can only be ventilated for a few hours a day with a ventilation dryer.
On the other hand, a ventilation dryer has lower energy requirements than a grain cooling unit, which has to use additional energy to treat the air. In the case of modern grain cooling units, this additional consumption is not significant, however.
Despite different operational prerequisites and functionality, grain ventilation and grain cooling are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary: If the operating company ventilates the grain in a first step and then cools it, bottlenecks when it comes to cooling can be avoided and investment costs saved.
Gain ventilation is suitable for removing most of the heat from the grain directly after the harvest and cooling it down to 22°C. Bottlenecks can thus be avoided with ventilation dryers in this initial, critical phase of the cooling process.
After the grain is ventilated, it is cooled to under 15°C with a grain cooling unit and brought to a stable storage condition. Through grain ventilation, the grain cooling unit can be smaller in size, therefore reducing investment costs.
With over 55 years of experience in grain cooling, we have acquired extensive specialist knowledge in all areas. We look forward to bringing this know-how to bear on your grain storage challenges.
